The Problem
Most marketplaces focus on buying and selling, leaving trading fragmented across informal communities and social platforms. Without structured systems for negotiation and verification, users face uncertainty when attempting to exchange items directly.
The Solution
Trade Up reimagines peer-to-peer marketplaces by focusing on item exchanges instead of traditional buying and selling. The platform introduces structured negotiation tools and trust signals that make trading simple, safe, and engaging.

Key Design Highlights

A reputation and verification system helps users evaluate trading partners before committing to an exchange, reducing uncertainty and building confidence in peer-to-peer trades.

Instead of traditional buying and selling, the platform encourages flexible deal-making where users can trade items, combine offers, or include cash adjustments.

A structured step-by-step flow helps users clearly understand trade terms, confirm agreements, and complete exchanges with minimal friction.
From Insight to Impact
The redesigned interface simplifies how users discover items and propose trades within a peer-to-peer marketplace. Clear listing layouts, reputation indicators, and streamlined trade flows help users quickly evaluate items and initiate exchanges. The experience encourages exploration while maintaining transparency and trust between trading partners.
Designing for a barter-based marketplace introduced unique UX challenges. Unlike traditional buying flows, trades require negotiation and flexibility, so the interface needed to support multiple trade scenarios without becoming complex. This project reinforced the importance of balancing flexibility with clarity when designing systems that rely on user trust and interaction.
